April #SHRMChat Tonight

The next #SHRMChat is tonight at 8pm EST/7pm CST and will be my first time participating in 2013.   But, before I go on and explain more in detail, some of you may ask …what is #SHRMChat?

#SHRMChat is an online discussion between members of the Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM) who serve in a leadership role in some capacity.   It has been my experience that this provides another way to connect and share ideas with various people who, without technology, I might never contact.   It is time well spent and well worth your time to check it out and see if it is right for you.

UPDATE: (05:23pm) Please note that you do not have to be a SHRM Volunteer leader to participate in the chat.  All are welcome!!!

The following information will tell you how to access #SHRMChat:

  • Create a Twitter account if you do not have one already.   As you can guess by the use of a hashtag (#)……the chat is via Twitter.
  • As a courtesy, I will always “warn” my followers when I participate in a Twitter chat.  Otherwise, if I don’t, they may be wondering “Why the heck is he sending out all of these messages.”
  • Visit http://tweetchat.com.  (See Image.)
  • Login with your Twitter username/password.
  • Search on #SHRMChat.
  • Join the fun!

Joan Ginsberg, Dave Ryan & Tonight’s Chat

Just Joan's Joan Ginsberg

Joan Ginsberg

I discovered #SHRMChat quite by accident last year and connected with Joan Ginsberg.  Joan’s Blog, Just Joan, is home to more information about the current and past #SHRMChats.    Dave Ryan, of the HR Official blog will be tonight’s host.

I invite you to join the fun.   Let me know if you’ve joined based on this post by letting the chat know that @HRtoWHO/@kylemj6977 sent you.

I’ll see you in the Twitter Stream!

Many thanks for the shout, Kyle! Just a couple of points for your readers, though. (1) While the biggest bulk of the chatters are volunteer leaders in their state & local SHRM affiliated chapters, we also have a good portion of participants who are not SHRM affiliated at all, but are interested in the HR profession in general. For example, we did a “bringing SHRM to small business” chat once that attracted many non-SHRM small biz people. So please don’t think if you are not a SHRM leader it won’t pertain – check the preview or recaps! (2) My name is spelled GinsbErg. 😉 That’s @JoanGinsberg on Twitter so please stop by and say hello! I claim we are the friendliest, most helpful chatters on Twitter.

    • Joan, my apologies for the Burg instead of Berg in one section of the post. I’m excited to be joining everyone tonight. See you on Twitter in about an hour.
