HR Professionals Magazine: Mississippi SHRM Special Edition

What’s a great way to start a Friday morning?  For me, it started off great when I saw an email from Cynthia Thompson with a subject line that read:  2013 MS SHRM Conference Special Digital Issue! No coffee needed (still had – just not needed) to wake up my brain and get the arterial flow going strong.

The Mississippi SHRM Annual Conference

Readers of this blog already know that I’m a proud associate of the Mississippi SHRM State Council having served in various roles over the years. This organization is something that is very important to me personally not only because of the work that they do but because of the professional impact the State Council has had on my professional career. So, seeing the group showcased was a welcomed PLUS to a Friday morning!

The Mississippi SHRM Human Resource Conference & Expo is an annual event held in the Spring with locations ranging from Tunica to Biloxi – where it has been for the last two years  I am excited to mention that the event will also return to Biloxi and the Beau Rivage once again in 2014.

HR Professionals Magazine

I first discovered HR Professionals Magazine when meeting Cynthia Y. Thompson, MBA, SPHR at the 17th Annual MSSHRM Conference last year at her exhibitor’s booth.Cynthia Thompson

I shared an enjoyable visit with her and her husband before receiving my first issue of the magazine – which was a nice and welcomed accompaniment to the national SHRM magazine. Why? The magazine’s localization due to the proximity of Memphis, Tennessee to many of the Mississippi chapters in the Northern District. This placed a regional spin to the content while continuing, in my opinion, to present information in professional way.

I’ve since been of good fortune to connect with Cynthia across social media and at other MSSHRM events.

According to their Facebook Page:

HR Professionals™ is a monthly subscription based trade publication, the “one and only” publication in the greater Memphis market that reaches executive level decision makers in the HR community and small business owners. Atrusted tool and reference for all professionals.

Taken from the HR Professionals Magazine website:

HR Professionals Magazine is an exciting monthly trade publication designed to educate and tell HR professionals in every discipline of the Human Resources function. We cover current hot topics on employment law, staffing and recruiting, compensation and benefits, employee relations, diversity, ethics, business leadership, relocation, employee training and development, payroll, and HR technology. Employment law will not only focus on federal legislation, but also on state and local regulations for Tennessee, Arkansas, and Mississippi.

We feature a key HR professional on the cover of each issue with a profile of their career. We will also feature a SHRM-Memphis Board member in each issue. Articles are detailed and comprehensive written by local HR specialists, educators, and attorneys who are highly regarded as experts in their respective fields.

Finally, I’ve been honored to see friends such as Chris Byrd, Judy Nail, Jan Farve, Rusty Turner and now Billy Sims grace the cover.
